WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said he believed God was behind his election loss in 2020, even though he has consistently claimed the election was rigged, and he in fact won it.
Further, the president claimed God ensured the loss so he would be president during the 250th anniversary of the United States, and America's holding of the Olympic Games and the World Cup.
On July 4, 2026, the U.S.will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Los Angelas will host the Olympics in 2028, while in a historical first, the U.S. will join Canada and Brazil, in co-hosting the 2026 World Cup.
Mr Trump made his remarks during his Memorial Day speech to honor fallen members of the U.S. armed forces at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday.
"In some ways, I'm glad I missed that second term where it was, because I wouldn't be your president for that," he said in reference to the country's 250th anniversary. "Most important of all, in addition, we have the World Cup and we have the Olympics," he said.
"Can you imagine if I missed that four years? And now look what I have. I have everything, amazing the way things work out."
"God did that, I believe that too," the president said.
Earlier Mr Trump, in company with Vice President JD Vance, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to honor fallen U.S. service members.
"Every day the Republic stands is only possible because of those who did what had to be done when duty called," the president said. "Our debt to them is eternal, and it does not diminish with time. It only grows and grows and grows with each passing year. The greatest monument to their courage is not carved in marble or cast in bronze. It's all around us, an American nation, 325 million strong," Mr Trump said.
Vice President JD Vance also spoke. "Each life honored here in Arlington was once full of the ordinary moments and quiet dreams of early sunrises, of good days and bad days, of celebrations and disappointments," he said. "For my fellow Americans, especially those watching on television, consider the sum of all the moments that make a good life, and now appreciate that countless strangers, people most of you never met, they gave up those moments in their own life so that we could enjoy them in ours. And that is what Memorial Day is all about," Vance said,
Despite the somber occasion, President Trump wished everyone a 'Happy Memorial Day,' during a Memorial Day message he posted on Truth Social just hours earlier.
"Happy Memorial Day to all, including the scum that spent the last four years trying to destroy our country through warped radical left minds, who allowed 21,000,000 million people to illegally enter our country, many of them being criminals and the mentally insane, through an open border that only an incompetent president would approve, and through judges who are on a mission to keep murderers, drug dealers, rapists, gang members, and released prisoners from all over the world, in our country so they can rob, murder, and rape again — all protected by these USA-hating judges who suffer from an ideology that is sick, and very dangerous for our country," the U.S. president posted.
"Hopefully the United States Supreme Court, and other good and compassionate judges throughout the land, will save us from the decisions of the monsters who want our country to go to hell. But fear not, we have made great progress over the last 4 months, and America will soon be safe and great again! Again, Happy Memorial Day, and God bless America!" Mr Trump said.
